The leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, who was arrested on Tuesday in Cotonou, Benin Republic has been released.
He was released this 1.00am this morning, after President Goodluck Jonathan personally intervened on his behalf with the Beninoise President Yayi Boni. His release has been confirmed by his attorney, Mr. Festus Keyamo.
Fillers reaching us confirmed that he has since being flown to Abuja on a presidential jet, after spending 36hours in detention of the Beninoise gendarmes.
Mr. Dokubo, who recently adopted Beninoise Citizenship and has business interests in that country, has once boosted that his arrest in Nigeria will lead to its demise.
President Jonathan reportedly deployed a jet to ferry Mr. Asari to Abuja a few hours after his release.
